As a young Marine in 1965 I was on the Cusk in Hawaii. We were an early raider company in training. I still have my submariners card issued by the crew.
For you being on board was a routine assignment but for me it was a thrill I still remember. Slept in torpedo room and watched cowboy movie on hung sheet, chow was good.
By mistake we landed on the beach the movie Hawaii was being filmed.
I can tell you that I left ship with a respect for submariners that remains undiminished.
Thanks for giving me permission to come on board. |

Stayed just long enough to become a plank owner and then Paul Summers shipped me off to Diodon (349). Might look over on Tom Roselands web site in about August of 99--I relate a rather detailed story about the Cusk's 1946 expedition to the arctic ice cap with Diodon, Blackfin and Trumpetfish. The telling was aided by the recollections of Zeke Zellmer the Cusk's Engineering Officer in its early years. Bobericks email is boberick@msn.com |

I was aboard when the Cuban crisis broke out. We were on a dependants cruise that day. When we got back there was no liberty for anyone. We took on 90 day stores, a full load of "fish" and we were on our way. We were the first boat to leave Pearl Harbor and were proud of it...
